About Friendly Food
Friendly Food is a free initiative with one goal: eating out and ordering in should be enjoyable for everyone, including people with an allergy. On our map you see per restaurant in Utrecht which dishes contain which of the 14 allergens. There are currently 166 restaurants.
Why Friendly Food?
With an allergy, ordering food is often a puzzle. Allergen info sits in a PDF, on another page than the menu, or nowhere at all. That leaves calling, guessing, or always ordering the same thing. Friendly Food puts the information on one map so you can filter on what you cannot or do not want to eat. Use is free — and stays free.
How we work
- We read the menus. We collect public menu information: menus, websites and allergen sheets where restaurants publish them.
- We estimate when a restaurant does not publish allergens. Based on dish names and ingredients on the menu. An estimate is not confirmed information.
- We always show when something is an estimate. You see whether data comes from the restaurant or from us.
- We ask restaurants to check. We contact each restaurant to verify, update and complete their data. Not every restaurant responds.
- Anyone can report mistakes. Use the button on the restaurant. We review every report.
What we do and don’t do
We organise public information and give restaurants room to complete it. We are not in the kitchen and cannot see what ends up on your plate. Recipes, ingredients and suppliers change, and cross-contamination (shared fryer oil, for example) almost never appears on a menu.
We are not responsible for what ultimately ends up on your plate. Friendly Food helps you get started; it does not replace your own checks.
Always mention your allergy
We strongly recommend telling the restaurant about your allergy or intolerance when you order, even if the map says a dish is free of your allergen. Restaurants must provide information on the 14 main allergens on request. Tips per allergen:
